In 2021, Lohit Gogoi stood for the Mahmara Assembly constituency.

Bhaben Handique, a prominent Raijor Dal leader and spokesperson, resigned from the party earlier this month in a lengthy social media post.

Handique was the party's state secretary at the time. He chaired the party's leadership committee as well as its RTI cell.

Handique stated in a lengthy Facebook post that his job in the party had become static, leaving him unsatisfied for a long time.
