Assam: Union Health Minister inaugurates CGHS wellness centre in Silchar

For retired Central Government personnel living in and around Silchar, including Karimganj, Hailakandi, and the Barak valley, the New CGHS centre will offer medical services.

Digital Desk: Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare Mansukh Mandaviya inaugurated Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) Wellness Centre in Assam’s Silchar on Wednesday.

According to the minister, the wellness centre will offer high-quality medical care to a sizable portion of the local community.

"In a significant achievement to building the country's health infrastructure and accessibility to CGHS services, there has been a threefold increase in the number of Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) Wellness Centers," stated Mandaviya when electronically launching the centre. There are now 75 cities that are serviced by CGHS Wellness Centers, up from 25 in 2014. This is consistent with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's goal of bringing affordable healthcare closer to the communities.

For retired Central Government personnel living in and around Silchar, including Karimganj, Hailakandi, and the Barak valley, the New CGHS centre will offer medical services.

"The new Wellness Centre would cater to the medical needs of several thousand beneficiaries and would lessen their burdens, as they will no longer be needed to go to such far regions," the minister stated.

During the official ceremony, the minister was joined by Silchar's Dipayan Chakraborty, MLA, and Dr. Rajdeep Roy, MP (LS).

After Guwahati and Dibrugarh, Silchar is the third city in the state to have a CGHS Wellness Center. It is also one of the 16 new CGHS centres that the government is opening up around India in an effort to increase the reach and accessibility of CGHS services.

In order to provide comprehensive healthcare to Central Government personnel, pensioners, and their dependant family members, the CGHS was established in 1954.

This programme currently covers more than 41 lakh beneficiaries across 75 cities.
