Guwahati : Kamrup metropolitan Administration has directed all city based privately owned educational institutions to use Assamese language alongside English language.
The move proposed by the Assam Sahitya Sabha (ASS) has been issued by the inspector of schools following a collective decision by the members of the Sabha and a Directive from the Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup (Metro), Biswajit Pegu.
In Addition to this the ASS has also given all private educational institutions, including Don Bosco, St Mary’s a time frame of 7 days to replace their signboards written only in English to also include Assamese language in the signboards.
“Teachers should make use of Assamese language as a medium of instruction alongside English. For those teachers who are unfamiliar with the Assamese language, Asom Sahitya Sabha will take up the responsibility to teach them,” said Paramananda Rajbongshi, ASS President while addressing a presser here.
The President also urged school authorities to adopt the Assam Official Language Act.
