‘Pink Bus’ was launched under the Bhraman Sarathi scheme and was dedicated to women and senior citizens to travel within the city of Guwahati free of cost.
Digital Desk: The Assam State Transport Commission has decided to decrease the number of pink buses in Guwhati to four from 25, keeping in view the decreased use of the buses.
ASTC stated in a notification that the pink buses have seen less passenger demand in recent months, so the commission has decided to reduce the number of buses operating and only four buses will ply the city roads daily.
The ASTC has issued a new timetable about the routes on which the buses will operate. The bus service will run on four routes per the newly revised timetable.
Bus 1 will go from Khanapara to Jalukbari; Bus 2 will go from Jalukbari to Khanapara; Bus 3 will go from Bonda/Narengi to Jalukbari; and Bus 4 will go from Jalukbari to Bonda/Narengi.
However, the notification further claimed that the operational fleet might be increased for ease of travel if demand arises.
It may be mentioned that the ‘Pink Bus’ was launched under the Bhraman Sarathi scheme and was dedicated to women and senior citizens to travel within the city of Guwahati free of cost.
A fleet of 25 buses was launched in 2021 by the former Chief Minister of Assam, Sarbananda Sonowal.
