In a major breakthrough, Changsari police arrested a gang of robbers and thieves involved in various ATM theft cases in the state.
The police stated that the arrested persons are hardened criminals and habitual offenders of ATM burglary in different parts of Assam and outside.
The group was wanted by the Changsari Police for their involvement in an ATM theft under its jurisdiction.
On the night of December 18, 2017, the group of miscreants cut the vault and broke down the ATM of the Central Bank of India located at Joyguru, Amingaon and looted cash of Rs 12,14,700 from the ATM.
However, the group run out of luck on the night of July 19 and were apprehended when they were again getting ready to loot an ATM in an area under the jurisdiction of the Changsari police station. Based on a tip-off, the police arrested seven persons.
The arrested persons have been identified as Abhijit Borah (28), Ramen Dutta (41), Ainul Ali (37), Pabitra Borah (35), Sanatulla Ali alias Bihari (30) and Rijuwan Ali (24).
After the accused were produced before the court of the Sub-divisional Magistrate, Rangia they were sent to police remand, as per reports.
The police is interrogating the ATM thieves to find out more about the racket.
