Guwahati: Babulal Sharma, Secretary of Home and Political Department has been appointed as the temporary coordinator of NRC by the Assam government. The post has been without an in-charge for weeks now as Hitesh Dev Sharma, whom the government had appointed as coordinator earlier this month is on leave.

A prominent NGO on Friday, demanded a CBI probe into alleged “illegalities and financial irregularities” in the NRC carried out under Mr. Prateek Hajela who was earlier the NRC Coordinator.

Hitesh Dev Sharma, after returning from leave will handle the process of sending letters to those left out of the final NRC list, informing them of the reason for their non-inclusion and moving their case to foreigners’ tribunals. Last month, Home Minister Amit Shah told the parliament that NRC would be carried out across the country and that no one from any religion should be worried.
