Mangaldoi: Several organisations are registering strong protest over the alleged assault and torture of one woman and her two pregnant sisters inside a police station on September 9. Complaints at State Human Rights Commission and Assam Police Accountability Commission by All Assam Garia Maria Yuva Chatra Parishad are lodged against the officer-in-charge Mahendra Sharma.
After the shameful incident, the Parishad has demanded stringent punishment against the two police personnel Mahendra Sharma and constable Binita Boro. If their demands are not met, then the Parishad has threatened of taking their protest to the streets. Meanwhile, Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti activists in Kalgasia also condemned the inhuman incident.
The activists of KMSS burned the effigy of Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and demanded investigation of the incident. They demanded the immediate suspension and arrest of the officer-in-charge, along with the lady constable involved in the assault of the three women. Meanwhile, Assam Finance minister Himanta Biswa Sharma told reporters that needful action will be taken after proper investigation.
According to the case, the women were picked up from their house in Guwahati and stripped and tortured by the officer-in-charge along with the lady constable. Out of these three women, one was 2 months and the other was 22 days pregnant, and in spite of their pleas, they were brutally beaten by the police, which led to their miscarriage.
