The CBI has already filed a chargesheet against the prime accused Deepankar Barman.
Digital Desk: On 13th March , 2025, Pushpajit Purkayastha and Sandeep Gupta were arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI in Guwahati for their significant role in the DB Stock Consultancy scam founded by Deepankar Barman. This large scam started in Guwahati and managed to deceive more than 10,000 Indian investors of more than ₹400 crore through fake deposit promotion tactics.
The investigation confirmed that Pushpajit Purkayastha former branch manager of Axis Bank’s Rehbari, until he was found engaged with DB Stock Consultancy. He took advantage of his official role combined with his authority to convince bank customers and private investors to join the fake profit scheme, which promised guaranteed high investment returns. Pushpajit received significant payment as commission from Deepankar Barman every time he brings new investors to join the fraudulent scheme. He managed client relationships and facilitated fraudulent investments between Guwahati and Mumbai as his operations spanned these locations.
Sandeep Gupta, another key player, served as the main acquisition agent for DB Stock Consultancy while being responsible for securing clients. He worked closely with Barman and his accomplices to handle a big investor network, which primarily operated from Dibrugarh. According to reports, Gupta was able to refer more than 350 investors to the fraudulent scheme by presenting them with false assurances about secure, high-yield returns. The substantial commissions earned by him amounted to lakhs of rupees as a result of his work.
A chargesheet has been submitted by the CBI against Deepankar Barman along with his fiancée Monalisha Das, his parents Chabin and Deepali Barman and Chartered Accountant Mukesh Agarwal. Barman operates DB Stock as its founder while being accused of running a massive unregulated deposit scandal through promises of guaranteed returns that led to investor losses of their saved funds.
The investigation continues as authorities work to trace the full extent of the scam and recover defrauded funds.
