Guwahati: The first day of the winter session of Assam Legislative Assembly was marked with chaos, protests by the opposition parties and eventually walking out of the assembly holding placards showing protest against CAB, NRC. Both AIUDF and Congress staged a walkout from the Assembly session with few others staging sit-in protest.
Holding placards like ‘stop scrapping of NRC’, ‘follow the Assam Accord’, ‘CAB is against the constitution’ the party leaders of the opposition parties staged a protest and expressed their displeasure against both the issues.
It is reported that the first day of the session will have government business beginning with the Oath of Affirmation by the newly elected members which will be followed by Question Hour. The four newly-elected MLAs at the by-election, Bijoy Malakar (Ratabari), Rajen Borthakur (Rangapara), Nandita Handique (Sonari) and Rafiqul Islam (Jania) will take the oath of office today.
Private Member’s Business with Bill,Resolutions, special Motion and Motions will be tabled in the session on November 29, 2019. Voting and passing of supplementary demand and supplementary appropriation for 2019-2020, followed by Introduction, consideration and passing of Assam Appropriation Bill,2019 will take place in the session on the third day November 30, 2019.
