Congress continues to suffer in Assam: Rokibul’s soldiers joined Himanta

The departure of Congress workers from the Bajiya Gaon panchayat raises questions about the party's internal dynamics and its ability to retain support in the constituency.

Digital Desk: In a significant turn of events in Nagaon, the Congress party is grappling with a notable setback as many workers from Bajiya Gaon panchayat, falling under MLA Rakibul Hussain's Samaguri constituency, have decided to part ways with the National Congress.

The defection marked a noteworthy turn of events as these Congress workers chose to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

The development unfolded on Sunday when the group officially left the Congress and embraced the BJP in a ceremony held at the BJP district office in Nagaon. The event witnessed the presence of district BJP president Abhijit Nath and Suresh Bora, the BJP candidate from Nagaon Lok Sabha constituency.

The departure of Congress workers from the Bajiya Gaon panchayat raises questions about the party's internal dynamics and its ability to retain support in the constituency. The BJP, on the other hand, appears to be gaining traction, attracting members from rival political factions. As the political landscape in Nagaon continues to evolve, these developments may impact the upcoming elections and shape the future dynamics of the constituency.

Amidst this political turmoil, the situation was mirrored at Guwahati's Cotton University earlier, where the General Secretary of the Cotton University Students' Union (CUSU), Javed Akhtar, officially joined the BJP, adding another layer to the broader trend of political shifts across the state.
