Digital Desk: The Guwahati District Congress Committee organised a protest near the Assam State School Education Board against the recent leak of Higher Secondary (HS) examination papers. Police in large numbers were deployed to manage the demonstrators.
Ripun Bora, a former Pradesh Congress President, took an active role in the protest calling for SEBA Chairman RC Jain's resignation. The protestors also raised slogans against Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Education Minister Ranoj Pegu, blaming them for the irregularities in the exam.
The police declared the demonstration illegal and tried to drive away the protesters. Ripun Bora criticized the Education Minister, saying that he was attempting to shirk responsibility. He demanded an high level investigation into the whole matter and called for the minister's resignation.
Bora also raised questions about the Chief Minister's decision to award 10 additional marks in the Social Science examination, terming it as arbitrary and unjust. He was concerned about the ineffectiveness of the education board and government officials in addressing the issue.
The leaders of the Congress stressed that such incidents greatly affect students' futures and indicate the government's inability to guarantee a just examination process. The protestors threatened to carry on with their agitation until action is taken.
