Guwahati: The department of textiles and apparel designing (TAD) of the College of Community Science (CCSc) at the Assam Agricultural University (AAU), Jorhat has taken up the responsibility of preparing face masks due to the sudden surge in demand for face masks in fear of the novel coronavirus.
As per the government order, following the virus threat, students have vacated the institution and the masks are mainly being made by the teaching and non teaching staff of the department. There are two types of masks being sold currently. The single layer mask is being sold for Rs 25 and the triple layer at Rs 30. They can be disinfected and dried in the sun. A disinfectant is also provided along with the product.
There are around 250 face masks being readied everyday by the department and the priority is being given to serve the employees of university and other government offices in Jorhat and the public.
