Cotton University's Capacity Building Centre (CBC), in cooperation with
Civil Services Achievers' Point (CSAP), Guwahati, today started a coaching
programme for civil service aspirants. Dr. Sangeeta Barthakur, Director of CBC,
stated in her welcoming address that 80 students from various educational
institutions, including Cotton University, had registered for the programme.
She set the tone for the occasion by emphasizing that Assamese kids are no less
than students from other regions of the country and that only intensive
coaching and need-based orientation can lead to success in competitive exams.

    Prof.
Bhabesh Chandra Goswami, Vice Chancellor (VC), Cotton University, said,
"It is important for aspirants to be selective while collecting
information. They need to stay away from petty negative news and rather follow
debates and talk shows on issues of greater relevance. "They should
regularly read newspapers for competitive exams." The two guest speakers
for the inaugural event, Subhash Chandra Das, IAS, presently the VC of Assam
Skill University, and Diganta Barah, IPS, Secretary to the Government of Assam,
stressed appropriate guidance and perseverance as the keys to clearing
competitive exams. During his speech, Das emphasized how his genuine passion
and unwavering commitment had led to his third try at civil service. Barah
emphasized the importance of topic selection as one of the things that
candidates must consider before taking the civil service tests. He went on to
say that vernacular-medium students should never have an inferiority complex
when studying and taking exams. He went on to say that geography and language
don't matter as much as candidates' sincere desire to pass competitive tests.

    Rajdeep
Lekharu, CSAP's founding Director and Chief Mentor, was also there and sketched
an overview of the coaching programme. Other speakers were Cotton University's
Academic Registrar, the Dean of Students' Welfare, and faculty members. Dr.
