The office of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) is all set to publish the complete draft NRC on July 30 in two versions, namely online and print.
The print version, which will be available in the NRC Sewa Kendras, would incorporate the photographs of the citizens including the other details like name, parents’ names, permanent and present addresses, date of birth (DoB), as well as the name of the respective ‘Birth State’.
On the other hand, the online version would show only the names of the citizens. One can log on to the official website (www.nrcassam.nic.in) and check the availability of one’s names by providing the ARN (Applicant receipt Number)
The office of the NRC would issue the numbers for SMS-based checking through advertisements. The authority will also launch advertisement campaigns for filing claims and objections.
The first draft of the NRC was published on December 31 (midnight), 2017 and contained names around 1.90 crore people.
The NRC contains names of Indian citizens of Assam. The NRC was prepared in 1951, after the Census of 1951. The NRC Updation of 2014-2016 across Assam includes the names of those persons (or their descendants) who appear in the NRC 1951, or in any of the Electoral Rolls up to the midnight of March 24, 1971 or in any one of the other admissible documents issued up to the midnight of March 24, 1971, which would prove their presence in Assam on or before march 24, 1971.
