Samaguri : With Assam Panchayat elections around the corner and political tussle being the regular show these days, a couple who claim to be supporters of Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) were beaten by miscreants allegedly from the opposition Congress at Rupahihat of central Assam’s Nagaon district.

The couple – Motibur Rahman and Gulsana Begum alleged that they were attacked by bamboo poles when they asked few youths to leave way for vehicles of AGP leaders who visited the village to campaign for the elections that will be held on December 5 and 8.
“We just asked them to give side for the vehicles that were coming. We were in front of our AGP panchayat election office and the vehicles were approaching. They, instead brought bamboo pole from nearby and started beating us,” Rahman said.
“My wife is profusely bleeding and in serious condition,” Rahman added.
AGP supporting Couple beaten up
The duo were immediately taken to the near by hospital where both have undergone treatment.
The party might lodge an FIR in Rupahihati police station regarding the same.
Rupahihat, about 12 km from Samaguri still remains one of the few strongholds of the Congress and is included within the Legislative Assembly constituency of former Congress minister and a party honcho Rockybull Hussain.
