Kokrajhar : After the bifurcation of the J&k received mostly positive reviews from the people of the state as well as in other parts of the country, now All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU), National Democratic Front of Bodoland (Progressive) NDFB (P) and the people’s Joint Action Committee for Bodoland Movement (PJACBM) on August 8th, 2019 staged a 3 hours Dharna reiterating their demand for a separate Bodoland.
Demand for Assam’s Bifurcation receives voice from Bodo Organisations
The members of the 3 organizations holding placards and shouting slogans demanded that “Assam should be bifurcated into two states just like Jammu and Kashmir” and mentioned that the state government should do “justice” for Bodoland”.
It may be mentioned, the demand for a separate state of Bodoland started way back in 1967. Meanwhile Rajya Sabha MP from Assam and leader of Bodoland People’s Front, Biswajit Daimary on August 5th, 2019 urged the Union Minister for Home Affairs Amit Shah to provide Union Territory (UT) Status to BTC.
Assam’s Bifurcation: Bodoland’s demand
The representatives of the 3 organizations on August 6th, 2019 urged the Centre to take concrete steps for creation of Bodoland just like it scrapped Article 370 of the Indian Constitution in Jammu and Kashmir.
It may be mentioned that Union Home Minister Amit Shah on August 5th, 2019 moved a resolution at the Rajya Sabha to scrap the provisions of Article 370 of the Constitution in J&K and bifurcated the state into two Union Territories. The notification has been signed by the president of India. The J&K will now be governed by the laws applicable to other Indian citizens.
