Nazira : A mob lynching replicating the Dokmoka style was evaded in Nongolmara area, located near Nazira town which falls in Sivasagar district, after two youths were rescued by the police when they were attacked by a group of 20 people. The victims have been identified as Prashanta Konwar and Partha Pratim Boruah.
As per reports, both the victims were returning after coming from an acquaintance’s house for Bihu festivities when a group of 20 people intercepted and assaulted them near Nongolmara. The incident occurred at around 9:30 pm on April 17th, 2019.
“We were attacked without any provocation. We don’t even know what our fault is. Thankfully the police arrived on time to rescue us,” said one of the victims to media persons.
An FIR has been lodged in the Simaluguri Police Station against 15 men. A massive search operation has been launched to nab the culprits. Meanwhile, two people were taken custody but were later freed.
It may be mentioned that two Guwahati boys – Nilotpal Das and Abhijit Nath – were lynched by a mob in Karbi Anglong on June 8, 2018 on suspicion of being child lifters. The incident took place near Panjuri Kachari under Dokmoka Police Station, Karbi Anglong. The barbarous incident sent shock waves across the nation.
