Guwahati/New Delhi : After much speculations and controversy shrouding whether Tej, son of late Dr Bhupen Hazarika will receive the Bharat Ratna award presented to his late father, following the state wide protest against Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, Tej Hazarika has finally decided to come to Rashtrapati Bhawan to receive the award to be presented by the President of India.
Tej Hazarika took to his personal Facebook account and wrote, “Happy to announce that on August 8th, my family and I will be at the Rashtrapati Bhawan, New Delhi, thanks to the Home Ministry of the Indian Government, to receive the Bharat Ratna that my father Dr Bhupen Hazarika was awarded posthumously last year. This is India’s highest civilian award and it is a really big deal and a great honour given to Bhupenda in the grand scheme of things Indian as well for us, his family and his fans.”
The Indian government had announced on January 25th, 2019, that Bhupen Da, also known as the ‘Bard of the Brahmaputra’ would be conferred India’s highest civilian honour posthumously, along with former President Mukherjee and the late social activist Nanaji Deshmukh.
Tez Hazarika will be down to Delhi from America with his family to receive the award on behalf of his late father, Dr. Bhupen Hazarika.
