Elvis Ali Hazarika, an Assam swimmer, became the oldest Indian and first from the Northeast to cross the North Channel, a strait between the Irish Sea and the North Atlantic Ocean.

Digital Desk:  Elvis Ali Hazarika, a talented Assamese swimmer, crossed the North Channel, a strait that connects the Irish Sea with the North Atlantic Ocean, at the oldest Indian age and as the first person from the Northeast.

Hazarika, a Guwahati native famed for setting swimming records, has done it again, making the people of Assam happy.

Elvis penned down a heartfelt note on the social media platform, he said-

"I have been waiting for this day for a long time. After a lot of effort and hours of pushing myself to work harder, every day, I successfully have become the first Assamese ( North East) to cross the North Channel by swimming it in Relay Northern Ireland to Scotland. We had to go through a lot of challenges. Specially, the huge Jellyfish that was accompanying us all the way!
We are the first Asian Relay team to cross the North Channel and I am the first oldest swimmer from India to have crossed the North Channel to clock a time of 14hrs 38mins.
A dream come true, and proud moment for all Indians and Assamese people.
Thank you to all my friends, family, specially Pranami and Presley, for all your love and support.
This is also my gift to my wife on her birthday.
Thank you everyone for your love and prayers because of which I’ve successfully completed this."

It should be noted that Hazarika had made several records.

By becoming the first Assamese to successfully swim from Dharamtar Jetty to the Gateway Of India in Mumbai, the Arabian Sea in 2021, Hazarika has established a new record.

Hazarika is the first person from the state to traverse the Catalina Channel in the USA in 2019 as well.

Elvis Ali Hazarika crossed the channel by swimming from the USA to Mexico, covering the 80-kilometre trip in 10 hours 59 minutes.
