Lahkar forged government documents and posed as a legitimate supplier of medical equipment
Digital Desk: Today, Dispur Police have arrested 32-year-old Jyotirmoy Lahkar, a resident of Bishnunagar on VIP Road in Guwahati, who had been on run since August 2023. Lahkar, who has medical credentials, is facing charges of heading a big scam where he created fake requests for medical equipment and defrauded people of several lakhs of rupees.
As per a report, Lahkar created fake government papers and pretended to provide medical supplies. He focused on doctors and businesspeople in Guwahati and Jorhat, urging them to invest in contracts that didn’t exist. Some say the collected money only ended up in his wife’s bank account, making people even more suspicious that a much larger conspiracy was behind it.
The case came to light following a complaint filed by Md. Samim Ali, currently living at FA Ahmed Nagar in Guwahati, initiated the case. Ali told the court in his FIR that Lahkar gave him a counterfeit work order and defrauded him of Rs 4 lakh. There was evidence that this problem went further and had involved several other victims.
Using sections 61(2), 318(4), 336(3) and 316(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, police registered the incident as Dispur PS Case No. 446/2025. A standard part of his arrest involved a medical examination of Lahkar.
Police confirmed that there have been complaints made against Lahkar in many different police stations, which suggests his fraud takes place in various parts of Assam. Several medical professionals were among those deceived by his convincing but false documentation and promises
Lahkar’s arrest is a major development in a situation that had upset the medical community, underlining the importance of checking contract legitimacy more carefully.
