Digital Desk: Union Minister Amit Shah today will give away the prestigious President's Colour' to the Assam police.
Many of you must be wondering what this honor means? Well, in brief, the President's Colour Award is the highest award that any Indian military unit may get. It is also known as ′Nishaan,′, a symbol worn on the left sleeve of all unit officers' uniforms.
Assam Police today will be bestowed with the prestigious "President's Colour" as they will be the 10th police Force in the country to be conferred this commendation.
It recognizes the state police force's continuous meritorious contributions to the country in both peace and wartime.
The honor is given to a police force that has served the country effectively for 25 years.
Before deciding on this honor, a high-level committee of the union home ministry examines proposals.
To date, the President's Colour honor has been given to these states -
Uttar Pradesh, Maharastra, Tamil Nadu, Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat, Jammu & Kashmir, Tripura, and Haryana.
When Delhi was a union territory, it too acquired this honor.
