    Flood conditions improved in Assam, but nearly 14 lakh people still affected

    Assam's devastating floods and landslides have already reported the death of 180 lives in 2022.


    Digital Desk: The number of affected persons in Assam decreased to nearly 14 lakh on Monday from 18.35 lakh the day before, according to an official report, while one more death raised the death toll to 180.


    According to the daily flood report published by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), a person lost his life due to the flood in the Cachar district.


    In addition, another individual is missing in the same neighbourhood.


    13,71,600 people, including those in Barpeta, Biswanath, Cachar, Darrang, Dibrugarh, Hailakandi, Hojai, Kamrup, Karimganj, Lakhimpur, Morigaon, Nagaon, Nalbari, Sivasagar, Sonitpur, Tamulpur, and Udalguri, are still impacted by the floods, according to the ASDMA.


    With almost 6.69 lakh affected residents, Cachar is the worst-hit district, followed by Nagaon (3.63 lakh) and Morigaon (1.79 lakh people).


    Over 18.35 lakh people had been affected by the flood in 23 different districts of the state as of Sunday.


    Currently, 43, 779 and 1,344 villages are submerged. In addition, the ASDMA said that 12 hectares of cropland had been damaged throughout Assam.


    Authorities manage 376 distribution centres and relief camps in 18 districts, where 1,55,271 individuals have sought refuge, including 41,546 children.


    In the previous 24 hours, the state administration provided other flood relief supplies, including 812.09 quintals of cattle feed, 901.02 litres of mustard oil, 473.82 quintals of rice, dal, and salt, and 473.82 quintals of rice.


    The districts of Barpeta, Bongaigaon, Charaideo, Dhemaji, Dhubri, Dibrugarh, Golaghat, Morigaon, Nalbari, Tinsukia, and Udalguri have all seen significant erosion.


    Places affected by flooding and damaging dams, roads, bridges, and other infrastructure are Darrang, Dibrugarh, Karimganj, Tamulpur, Morigaon, Bajali, Barpeta, Biswanath, Cachar, Dhubri, Hailakandi, Kamrup, Lakhimpur, Nalbari, and Udalguri. 


    According to the report, 5,35,941 domestic animals and birds have been harmed by the flood in nine districts.


    The Brahmaputra River at Dhubri Town and its tributaries Kopili at Dharamtul, Disang at Nanglamuraghat, and Burhidihing at Chenimari (Khowang), according to the ASDMA's citation of the Central Water Commission bulletin, are flowing over danger levels.
