Floods Situation in Assam is improving, but 9.68 lakh people are still affected
Population-wise, 9,68,218 people are still impacted. In addition, the flooding in 20 districts affected 837 villages and 42 revenue circles.

Digital Desk: The Assam floods this year have been brutal. Shoals of water pushed residents from their houses in various areas of the state, both rural and urban, and many of them were forced to look for shelter for their cattle. Many times, standing crops were not preserved. Granaries were destroyed, and sand transported by raging floods filled mud dwellings. Before the start of another flood cycle, the receding floods could leave behind further devastation. Ironically, though, they also provide the impoverished soil with hope.

Assam's flood situation has slightly improved as of Wednesday, when it was estimated that 9,68,218 people in 20 districts had been affected by the flooding.

The state of Assam confirmed two additional deaths on Wednesday, bringing the total death toll to 186, according to the most recent data from the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA). One of the deaths was reported from Raha in Nagaon, while the other was from Sonapur in Kamrup Metro.

Population-wise, 9,68,218 people are still impacted. In addition, the flooding in 20 districts affected 837 villages and 42 revenue circles.

The ASDMA also reported that 29 relief distribution centres and 266 relief camps are still operational in the state.

1,35,166 people are living in the relief camps.

2,00,373 animals were still impacted by the water as of Wednesday.
