Digital Desk: Officials announced on Sunday that the family of Bidyasing Lekhte, the forest guard slain in the border violence, will receive Rs 14 lakh in ex-gratia and income till his retirement age, as well as a government post for his widow.
The Assam government awarded Rs 5 lakh for the relatives of the six deceased persons immediately following the horrific violence that killed five villagers from Meghalaya as well as Forest Protection Force officers.
According to an official, Assam Hills Area Development Minister Jogen Mohan and Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council Chief Executive Member Tuliram Ronghang visited Lekhte's home and pledged a plethora of relief measures for his family.
"Mohan stated that the Forest Department will provide Rs 4 lakh to the family, whereas Ronghang stated that the Council will grant Rs 5 lakh." These sums will be in addition to those already disclosed by the Assam government," he continued.
Furthermore, Lekhte's widow will be paid until the slain forest staff reach retirement age.
"The CEM also said that the Council will make the appropriate arrangements in the coming days to offer a government job to Lekhte's wife," the official added.
As said by officials, five people from Meghalaya were killed in Assam Police firing along the inter-state border on Tuesday as they attempted to control an armed mob that allegedly attacked them, resulting in the death of a forest guard, after a truck transporting illegally felled timber was intercepted.
