    Former AASU Leader Shankar Jyoti Baruah Arrested over Scuffle in Duliajan
    As per reports, the Shankar Jyoti Baruah intervened in an ongoing confrontation between two parties at a local petrol pump and physically assaulted the worker of the petrol pump.

    Digital Desk: Former All Assam Students' Union (AASU) general secretary Shankar Jyoti Baruah was arrested on May 19, Monday, for allegedly assaulting a petrol pump worker in Duliajan.  

    As per reports, the Shankar Jyoti Baruah intervened in an ongoing confrontation between two parties at a local petrol pump and physically assaulted the worker of the petrol pump.

    Police have registered the case (Duliajan PS Case No. 90/2025) under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023, including 196(1)(a), 196(1)(b), 197(1)(b), 197(1)(c), 197(1)(d),3(5), 352, 353 (1)(b), 353(1)(c), and 353(2).

    The appearance of Shankar Jyoti Baruah in handcuffs while being escorted by Dibrugarh Police stirred reactions across various circles. 

    In response to that, Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sharma issued instructions not to handcuff the former student leader. 

    This incident comes approximately one year after Baruah resigned his position as AASU General Secretary amid personal controversies. 

    At the time of his resignation, Baruah had cited a dispute involving his relationship with a female law student as the reason for stepping down from the prominent student organization.
