Dibrugarh: A home guard identified as Sanjay Gohain has been arrested by Dibrugarh police for allegedly collecting ‘gunda tax’ from fish sellers, whose video surfaced on social media allegedly demanding money forcefully.
As soon as the video surfaced on social media, the Dibrugarh police launched an investigation to ascertain the cop’s identity. He was soon identified as Sanjay Gohain, a home guard working under the Lahowal Police Station in Dibrugarh.
It may be mentioned that the police personnel, allegedly belonging to the Assam Police, can be witnessed taking bribe that is quickly going viral on social media. The video, show from the camera of a person travelling in a truck, shows the vehicle being stopped by a policemen. The policeman then goes on to demand a sum of Rs 300 from the duo travelling in the truck, and states that it is the standard rate for vehicles selling fish.
This incident has been widely condemned by netizens, and the policeman allegedly demanding ‘gunda tax’ has received severe criticism for the policeman’s filthy mouth and lust for money.
