Guwahati: A new water pump “Noonmati Basin Storm Water Pump House” was installed today to combat flash floods in the city for a cost of Rs. 6 crores. The pump project was opened at 11 am at Noonmati by state BJP President and Guwahati Development department minister Siddhartha Bhattarcharya.
Through this pump project, many regions of the city which remain submerged during monsoon season will be benefitted as revealed by the department. These regions are Anil Nagar, Nabin Nagar, Zoo Road, Jyoti Nagar and others.
Initially, most flood water of the submerged regions was pumped towards the Bharalu river but the intake capacity of Bharalu is receding. The pump project is in creation by an organisation named “Tahal.”
A total of four pumps would be installed in the pump house which will be necessary to reduce the flood water. The outlet capacity of the pump is around four thousand litres.
