Digital Desk: The Gauhati High Court has expressed profound dissatisfaction with the inaction of the state government regarding children's right to education. Despite repeated directives from the court, the government has failed to finalise the free admission process for economically disadvantaged students in private educational institutions.

The Court was hearing a PIL concerning the non-implementation of Section 12(1)(c) of the RTE Act in Assam. The High Court has criticised the Education Department's apathy, directing them to submit a thorough affidavit containing all necessary information by May 9. Under the Right to Education Act, private educational institutions are bound to reserve 25% of their seats for students from financially weaker backgrounds.

The Gauhati High Court has recently asked the Assam Government to file affidavits stating the implementation of Section 12(1)(C) of the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009 (RTE Act) in each of the districts of Assam.

The Education Department, which remains inactive even after admission for the academic year concludes, has neglected to file a crucial affidavit in the High Court for the fifth consecutive time. Moreover, despite repeated orders, the government has yet to establish an online portal for admissions.
