    Governing body of Assam plans to sponsor national sports events and Coaching facilities for young athletes

    The Assam Youth Olympics, hosted in the state for the first time, have given the athletes from its 35 districts a powerful podium.


    Digital Desk: Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, the chief minister of Assam, announced on Wednesday that his government would finance national sporting events and the national team and establish coaching facilities in the state.


    The Chief Minister commented on the success of the Assam Youth Olympic Games in providing a forum for young athletes at the grassroots level to identify and develop prospective medal winners while attending the closing ceremony program of the first Assam Youth Olympics, 2022, in Guwahati.


    "We have taken the initiative to create a new sports policy for Assam that has the potential to rank among the best in the nation. In the same vein as the government of Odisha, our administration has resolved to support 4-5 national sporting events, sponsor the national team, and set up coaching facilities in Assam to inspire the local young," according to Himanta Biswa Sarma.


    He added that Assam's sports policy would be improved to make it more appealing and accommodating for the state's efforts to promote sports and sportspeople.


    All government employees will have positions earmarked for sports professionals as part of the government's effort to encourage sports. 


    According to the Chief Minister, all 126 of Assam's stadiums, which are being erected across 126 constituencies, will serve as training grounds for local games.


    He also congratulated everyone who won a medal and commended the Assam Olympic Association for hosting the competition and utilizing sports to bring the community together.


    On Wednesday, the curtain came down on the seven-day Assam Youth Olympic, which was held across 12 venues in Guwahati.


    On this occasion, he also released 'Sports Jyotishpur,' a souvenir, and presented awards to the best male and female athletes and the best performing teams.


    Revenue Minister Jogen Mohan, MLAs Rupjyoti Kurmi and Hemanga Thakuria, General Secretary Assam Olympic Association Lakhya Konwar, Mayor GMC Mrigen Sarania, Arjuna awardees Monalisa Baruah Mehta and Kamalesh Mehta, athletes Allen Deuri and Ankushita Bodo, and several of the other dignitaries attended the event.
