Guwahati : Arrested ULFA (pro-talks faction) leader Pranamoy Rajguru and Assamese actress Jahnabi Saikia will be produced before the court today on May 17th, 2019 with regards to the Guwahati blast incident. Rajguru, who had joined the rebel group in 1986, was lodged at Latashil Police Station and Saikia at Pan Bazar Women Police Station.

Rajguru and Saikia were arrested on May 16th, 2019 in connection with May 15th, 2019’s grenade blast in Guwahati, in which 12 people including two SSB personnel, were injured.
According to the eyewitnesses, the grenade was lobbed around 7:45 pm by two bike borne assailants sped past the checkpoint near the Guwahati Central shopping mall.
Hours after the blast, the banned United Liberation Front of Assam-Independent (ULFA-I) headed by Paresh Baruah, owned up the blast. On may 16th, 2019 morning, Guwahati police raided a house in the Naamghar Path at the Panjabari area and recovered a huge quantity of explosives, a pistol and 25 rounds of ammunition along with documents related to the ULFA-I.
On questioning Saikia said that she had taken the accommodation on rent ten days ago and was staying with Rajguru. Saikia has acted in a number of popular Assamese TV series and plays: she even writes poems. A mother of two, Saikia’s estranged husband is a doctor by profession and stays in Nazira, Sivasagar.
While both the accused Saikia and Rajguru will be produced before the court today. During the search operation, the police found more than 40 kgs of explosives from the house where both were living. The police is on the hunt for other accused who were part of this entire blast incident.
