Guwahati : Guwahati city came to a standstill totally taking the city off gear after torrential rains since early morning threw life out of gear in the city. Several parts of Assam including the capital city of Guwahati faced water logging and flooding as the low lying areas got submerged in water.
The heavy downpour in low-lying areas of the city wreaked havoc for the residents as the rainwater gushed into their houses. The power line was snapped for several hours to avoid any untoward situation.
The heavy rains that lashed the city early this morning also snapped road links in several places putting motorists and pedestrians to trouble due to waterlogging. The pedestrians, motorists and school children rushing to their workplaces, schools had to face a lot of inconveniences as the traffic came to a standstill. Knee-deep water was seen on many thoroughfares in the city.
Although there were no reports of cancellation or delay of trains or flight, traffic jams were reported at several places of Guwahati due to water-logging.
It may be mentioned that breaking all records, Guwahati on June 13th, 2019 recorded the highest ever June day (maximum) temperature in its meteorological history. Guwahati recorded a day temperature of 39 degree Celsius. The previous record of the highest June day temperature of the city was 38.8 degree Celsius on June 12th, 2013.
