Faruqui's alleged ties to ISIS came to light after investigations uncovered his active support for the terrorist group on various social media platforms...
Digital Desk: In a shocking development, the Assam Police's Special Task Force (STF) has apprehended Tausif Ali Faruqui, a student of the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati, for his alleged involvement with the infamous terrorist organisation ISIS. The arrest took place in Hajo following reports from alert locals who spotted Faruqui walking along the highway, conspicuously carrying an ISIS flag.
Faruqui's alleged ties to ISIS came to light after investigations uncovered his active support for the terrorist group on various social media platforms, including a particularly aggressive post on his LinkedIn account.
According to sources, the brainwashed youth has been charged with IPC 121(a), conspiracy to commit offences punishable by Section 121; 120B Punishment of Criminal Conspiracy; 123 Liability of Offender who ceases to be subject to Act (he may be taken into and kept in military custody, and tried and punished for such offence as if he continued to be so subject); and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act 1967 (10/13).
It comes on the heels of the recent arrest of two senior ISIS leaders in Assam, Anurag Singh (alias Rehan) and Haris Farooqi (alias Harish Ajmal Farukhi), who were nabbed by the STF in the Dharmasala area of Dhubri. Both individuals, known for their extensive involvement in funding, recruitment, and orchestration of terror attacks across India, have long been on the radar of security agencies.
The STF has confirmed that Faruqui will be produced before the STF court on Sunday (today), where he will face legal proceedings in connection with his alleged support for ISIS.
The two recent arrests highlight the complexities of modern counterterrorism efforts, particularly in addressing the phenomenon of self-radicalization and online indoctrination.
