Guwahati : The all Guwahati journalists of UTMA (United Television Media Association) on Thursday staged a sit-in demonstration at the Dispur Press Club premises protesting against All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) chief and Dhubri MP Maulana Badruddin Ajmal for hurling abuses and threatening a reporter at a press conference in Mankachar, South Salmara-Mankachar district on Wednesday.

The journalists sported black badges and also covered their mouths with a black cloth as a mark of protest.
Ajmal hurled abuses, yanked and threw the mic of a reporter when he was asked whether his party would go with the Congress party of remain with the Bharatiya Janata Party on Wednesday. Ajmal had threatened to smash the head of the journalist.

Badruddin Ajmal used abusive language which is not expected from a politician. “Go dogs…for how much money were you paid by BJP? His father will be sold…. Go away, I will smash your head. Go register a case against me you son of a dog….Is this what you call journalism? People like you are demeaning journalism….,” he screamed at the journalist.

The incident has created anger among the journalists across the nation after the video footage went viral which showed Ajmal calling the journalist a ‘dog’ among other unparliamentarian words, snatching away the boom and trying to hit the television journalist.
Journalists in Tihu, Nalbari have also burnt the effigy of Ajmal.
However, in wake of wide-spread criticism, the Dhubri MP Tweeted an apology.
