Guwahati : Assam’s Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma hailed the ‘bold’ move made by the Centre to scrap Article 370 and ‘correct the monumental historical wrong’ done years ago. Article 370 of the Constitution grants special status to Jammu and Kashmir (J&K). He stated that the ‘epoch-making decision” will pave way for a ‘New India’.
Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted lauding the government, “In an epoch-making decision, NDA government led by PM Sri @narendramodi scraps Article 370 on Jammu & Kashmir. Congratulations to HM Sri @AmitShah for steering this bold move on way to correcting a monumental historical wrong. #NewIndia is blooming.”
J&K will now be governed on the lines of law applicable to other Indian citizens. Amit Shah on August 5th, 2019 moves a resolution at the Rajya Sabha guarantees special status to J&K.
Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Mehboob Mufti, who is currently under house arrest, slammed the move, “It will have catastrophic consequences for the subcontinent. GOIs intentions are clear. They want the territory of J&K be terrorizing it’s people. India has failed Kashmir in keeping its promises,” she tweeted.
