Digital Desk: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has asked all people of Assam to hoist the Tricolor at their homes between August 13 and 15. CM Sarma stated that the people of Assam should do this to show that they are "true children of Mother India."

The Bharatiya Janata Party leader stated that simply applying to be registered in the Assam NRC is insufficient. You must prove your it by hoisting the Tricolor.

"This year, between August 13 and 15, hoist the Tricolor in your houses. Applying for the NRC to prove that you are an Indian citizen is not enough. You must hoist the Tricolor to demonstrate that you are truly Bharat Mata's children. Is it or not?" CM Sarma asked at an event in Udalguri.

The Assam chief minister further stated that the government would sell the Tricolor for Rs 16 each at ration shops in the state.

"We have a duty to the nation, so we will not accept it for free. We won't accept the flag that has been offered to us; instead, we will purchase it," he said, urging the residents to buy flags on the occasion of India completing 75 years of Independence this August 15.

"The campaign's purpose is to develop a sense of patriotism in public and raise awareness of our national flag. Together with the panchayat and rural development, information and public relations department, and other government departments, the cultural affairs department has begun making preparations for the program's successful implementation," the Assam government said in a statement, as per reports.

The CM declared a few days ago that his government plans to hoist 80 lakh flags all over the state.

"We've been making elaborate arrangements to provide flags to every household. For awareness, we'll take several steps including theme songs, media publicity, etc.," he posted on Twitter.
