New Delhi: The year 2018-2019 has been a matter of powerplay of the BJP with the fortification of the power structure built over the past five years. In the recently released India’s top 100 powerful people by Indian Express, the ones who are not part of the RSS-BJP ambit is outgoing Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi and Billionaire businessman Mukesh Ambani.
With power accruing behind the throne, the space is shrinking for other voices in the list. The world of business that has largely muted in the face of a financial squeeze marks a meek presence. PM Modi has maintained to retain his aura across the globe and so has he in the country by coming first in the list. BJP’s top brass and Union Home Minister Amit Shah have been placed second.
Outgoing Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi has been placed third in the list. A workaholic and a strict lawyer who has presided over many groundbreaking cases during his tenure, CJI Ranjan was one of the four judges who held an unprecedented press conference raising questions on the allocation of cases to various benches in the apex court – which briefly cast a shadow on the chances of his elevation as CJI.
Surprisingly, Assam State’s Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma too finds a place in the list by being placed at the 56th position.
