    IIT Guwahati Signs Accord With US Foundation To Launch School Of Health Sciences And Technology

    According to IIT, the multi-disciplinary program has been

    designed while keeping the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 in mind. The

    new program intends to provide students with theoretical and practical training. 

     

    Digital Desk:  A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has

    recently been signed between the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IIT)

    and Mehta Family Foundation (MFF), which is based in Houston, Texas, to

    establish the 'Jyoti and Bhupat Mehta School of Health Sciences and Technology

    in the premises of IIT Guwahati. 

     

    The school aims to commence academic activities during the current academic year, and it will offer Masters's and Ph.D. programs in Health Sciences and Technology. It will also contain state-of-the-art facilities such as cutting-edge research in therapeutics, diagnostics, stem cells, public health, and health data analytics.

     

     According to IIT, the multi-disciplinary program has been

    designed while keeping the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 in mind. The

    new program intends to provide students with theoretical and practical training. 

     

    Ajay K Sood, a Professor and the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India, said that the school would bring in budding academic leaders closest to world-class educationists, scientists, physicians, technologists, and entrepreneurs.

     

    He also added that it would be a catalyst in imparting

    high-impact research, diminish expensive biomedical imports and engender an

    academic curriculum that substantiates the vision of a sustainable society. The

    MoU was virtually signed on May 14, 2022. Meanwhile, the Indian Institute of

    Technology Guwahati will collaborate with the Assam Survey and Settlement

    Training Centre (ASSTC) to promote the training of ASSTC officers.

     

     An MoU was signed in this regard on May 4 between the two

    institutions in the presence of Jogen Mohan, State Minister of Revenue and

    Disaster Management, Shantanu Gotmare, Director of Land Records and Surveys,

    Prof TG Sitharam, Director of IIT Guwahati, Pankaj Chakravarti, Principal of

    ASSTC and other officials from ASSTC and faculty from IIT Guwahati. According

    to a press release, IIT Guwahati will conduct courses related to drone

    operation, training, maintenance, data collection, and application in various

    sectors, theory classes on modern land management, and research and projects by

    leveraging their respective expertise in this area.

    These programs aim to develop qualified human resources and

    research personnel with competencies aligned with the industry in technology

    relating to underwater design and manufacture. 

     

     

    WHAT DOES THE MOU ENTAIL?

    · The Indian Register of Shipping (IRS) and the IIT Guwahati

    Technology Innovation and Development Foundation Guwahati (IITG TIDF) will work

    on training, design, and production, focusing on underwater technologies.

    · The 'IITG TIDF' and the 'IRS' will collaborate to offer

    training and certification programs and workshops.

     

    SIGNIFICANCE OF THE MOU

    · In addition to the development of technology, IIT Guwahati is

    also working on skill development.

    · IITG TIDF and IRS will work with IRS on training, design, and

    manufacturing.

    · The partnership between IIT Guwahati and IRS concerning

    training and certification programs will help develop technologies for

    underwater exploration.

    · The partnership will help IRS by giving it a chance to expand

    its training and certification
