    In a 21-year-old Witch-Hunting case in Assam, Ten People were sentenced to Life Imprisonment

    According to the reports, in 2001, the 12 accused people allegedly killed three people on suspicion of practising witchcraft.

    Digital Desk: A local court in Assam’s
    Chirang District on Tuesday awarded life imprisonment to 10 people in
    connection with a 21-year-old witch-hunting case.



    The
    Court of Additional and Session Judge, Bijni, in Chirang District, on Tuesday
    delivered the judgement.



    According
    to the reports, in 2001, the 12 accused people allegedly killed three people on
    suspicion of practising witchcraft.



    Out
    of the 12 accused, two died earlier.



    Prabin
    Debroy, Additional Public Prosecutor, said that the incident took place in
    2001. "When the case no. 120/2001 was registered at Bijni Police Station,
    at that time the Bijni Court was under the Bongaigaon district and the case was
    transferred here in 2018." From November 2018, hearings and witness
    processes were going on, and today the court has delivered the final verdict.
    The court has announced life imprisonment for 10 accused persons. Three people,
    including a woman, were killed by the accused persons on suspicion of
    practising witchcraft, "Prabin Debroy said. (with inputs from ANI).
