Independence Day 2022: Assam CM Announces to Withdraw 1 Lakh Pending Minor Cases
The elimination of 1 lakh cases will enable the judiciary to concentrate particularly on cases involving serious crimes like rape and murder, among others, he said.

Digital Desk: On the eve of the 76th Independence Day, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma declared that the state will withdraw one lakh "minor cases," many of which were pending accusations of offensive social media posts.

The chief minister said the action will lighten the load on the judiciary while addressing the crowd on the occasion. There are currently 400,000 cases that are still open.

The elimination of 1 lakh cases will enable the judiciary to concentrate particularly on cases involving serious crimes like rape and murder, among others, he said.

The chief minister also honoured the liberation warriors who gave their lives in the service of the nation.

CM Sarma announced that the state government will send 1,000 youngsters on an educational tour to Cellular Jail in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands this year in an effort to uplift people and remind them of the sacrifices that earlier generations had made.

The Chief Minister, taking Twitter, wrote, "On the occasion of the 76th Independence Day, I pay homage to countless freedom fighters who sacrificed a lot for our motherland. We will send 1,000 youth to Cellular Jail this year on an educational tour to help them get inspired by the sacrifices of our freedom fighters. "

He added, "Our freedom heroes made huge sacrifices to bring back the glory of this great nation and free its citizens. We shall forever remain indebted to them."

Sarma claimed that self-help groups in the state have sold 42 lakh flags for a total of about 17 crores in support of the "Har Ghar Tiranga" programme.

The "Har Ghar Tiranga" campaign officially launched on Saturday and is still going strong today. The goal of the initiative is to encourage Indians everywhere to fly the flag at home. Instead of just keeping it formal or institutional, the program's goal is to make the bond with the national flag more personal.
