Itanagar : About 100 vehicles have been torched and property worth 120 crores have been destroyed in Arunachal Pradesh as anti-outside agitation in Itanagar turned violent since last night forcing the government to roll back the relaxation planned for the Permanent Residence Certificates.
Angry students and locals of Itanagar moved in groups and damaged everything related to the government since yesterday as the anger was basically on the outsiders trying to make an easy entry into the state.
More than 120 cars were torched turning them into ash while 200 other vehicles were damaged at the venue of first Itanagar Film Festival, turning the entire area into ashes.
The Festival arena where the first Film festival was to be held, all production, broadcasting and video equipments were burnt. Even three generators laden vehicles also did not escape.
This morning Itanagar looked like a ravaged town as loots, arsons and burning of vehicles continued throughout the night as the administration squirmed before thousands of mobs angry over the government move to relax the PRC.
Bollywood filmmaker including Satish Kaushik and Ronnie Lahiri are among others to be stuck at Itanagar after protestors destroyed the venue of the IIFF. National award-winning filmmaker from Assam Utpal Borpujari said that at least 50 artists from Mumbai, Goa, Delhi and the rest northeastern states are stuck in Itanagar.
It may be mentioned that buckled under pressure from violent protests, Khandu-led BJP government has dropped the issue of granting PRC to six non-tribal communities from the discussion in the 60 member Assembly on February 22nd, 2019.
