Dhemaji : After much waiting and delaying of the court’s judgement on the Dhemaji blast case, the Dhemaji Court today convicted 6 and acquitted 8 others in its verdict. The quantum of punishment is yet to be pronounced.
The Dhemaji had filed chargesheet against 15 of which one is absconding. The eight who have been given acquittal are – Minu Borah, Mohan Chutiya, Jiten Chutiya, Apsara bora, Govind Kalita, Jaychandra Chutiya, Joya Chutiya, Chandranath Gogoi.
It may be mentioned that the court’s judgement will be announced later in the day. The Dhemaji blast that had killed around 18 and injured 40 others took place on the occasion of Independence Day in the year 2004. A grenade was planted at the Dhemaji College gate. The bomb was remote controlled that went off killing many school children and their mothers. The blast victims were mostly aged between 12 and 14.
The bomb that was planted at the college gate was triggered by a remote controlled device. The bomb exploded at the time when most of the students and their parents were moving in and out of the college.
