Guwahati : After remaining closed for three days for the annual Ambubachi Mela, the main sanctum of Kamakhya Temple was opened for the devotees. Lakhs of devotees thronged the temple from early morning to offer prayers and seek blessings from Ma Kamakhya.
Main sanctum of Kamakhya temple opens today
The temple doors opened in the morning after the ritualistic bathing of the Goddess Kamakhya. Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma were among the first visitors to the temple. Chief Minister Sonowal extended his gratitude to all devotees from across the country who visited the temple.

Sonowal offered prayers for the welfare and growth of the state. The Chief Minister also expressed his gratitude to the Shaktipeeth Kamakhya Devalaya and security forces for the success of the mela. “May Ma Kamakhya’s divine blessings brine happiness and peace in everyone’s life,” Sonowal tweeted.

Last year there was a footfall of 20 lakh visitors. Though this year the footfall is less compared to last year yet the Mela has witnesses a huge crowd from morning to evening in the last four days. Tourists have been coming in great numbers way before the Mela even begun to attend the state’s biggest religious fair.
