Landslide in Nilachal Hills
Triggered by torrential rains, two massive landslides took place at the Nilachal Hills way to the Kamakhya temple on Friday morning.
As per reports two residences have been destroyed causing property loss worth several lakhs.
Both the families narrowly escaped death. No casualties have been reported so far.
House of one Dinesh Mehta was damaged in the landslide.
District administrative authorities have reached the spot to take stock of the situation.
Deputy Commissioner, Kamrup (Metro), Virendra Mittal in the meantime have appealed to the public not to panic and asked the public to be cautious. The DC further added that the district administration has taken all the safety measures and that a statutory warning has been issued to all the vulnerable areas of the city.
It may be mentioned that rumors are also doing the rounds if the weather would play spoilsport in this year’s Ambubachi Mela which is about to be held from June 22 to June 25.
Another landslide was reported from Nizarapara, Birubari today morning. House of one Tilak Dutta was damaged in the landslide. Police have reached the spot. No casualty/injury has been reported till now.
