Landslides block key road in Arunachal Pradesh; 3 vehicles washed away

The OC stated that the drivers of the vehicles, which included an oil tanker, a Bolero pick-up, and a Maruti van, were able to escape unharmed when clearing the block point at 46 km near Lumum waterfall.

Digital Desk: The road connectivity between Bhalukpong and Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh was blocked on Sunday, due to landslides caused by days of continuous rain, leading the authorities to advise passengers to stay off the Bhalukpong-Charduar-Tawang (BCT) road. According to D Bagra, the official in charge of the Bhalukpong police station, three vehicles were washed away by mudslides on Saturday evening.

The OC stated that the drivers of the vehicles, which included an oil tanker, a Bolero pick-up, and a Maruti van, were able to escape unharmed when clearing the block point at 46 km near Lumum waterfall.

According to West Kameng DC Karma Leki, various sections of the BCT route, which connects Bhalukpong in the West Kameng district to the Tawang district bordering China and serves as a lifeline for both residents and defence forces, have been severely damaged by landslides.

The West Kameng district government has made it illegal for traffic to move along the road and has asked that commuters avoid using it until further notice. The DC suggested using the Orang-Kalaktang-Shergaon-Rupa-Tawang (OKSRT) road for commuters. Leki reported that the Border Roads Organization (BRO) had pressured its personnel and equipment to remove the obstructions and quickly resume traffic flow.
