Nagaon : The fate of almost 50 candidates of five Lok Sabha constituencies in Assam will be decided in the second phase polls in Assam on April 18th, 2019. Heavy security has been line up across the five constituencies to ensure smooth conduct of polling.
A total of 170 companies of security forces have been deployed both at the Centre and the state for smooth functioning of the second phase polls today. The five constituencies that are going for polling in Assam are – Karimganj (SC), Silchar, Autonomous District (ST), Nowgong and Mangaldoi. The votes will be counted on May 23rd, 2019 along with the rest of the country.
Around 45,960 polling personnel have been deployed in the second phase. Besides buses, the polling teams are also used boats, bullock and horse carts to reach their designated polling stations.
In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP won Mangaldoi and Nowgong seats. The AIUDF won in Karimganj and Congress won Silchar and Autonomous District.
While the second phase polls started for the five Lok Sabha constituencies in Assam, reports of EVM malfunctions are being reported from many polling booths creating trouble for voters.
