ULFA Commander in Chief has expressed their shock and sadness for the death of “Son of Assam-Bhaskar Kalita”. But have also stated that Bhaskar Kalita was hit by a bullet during the crossfire and they mourn for their death and that they did not mean to kill the Police officer.
Hours after the death of OC Bhaskar Kalita spread across the state, ULFA commander Paresh Baruah speaking to a local news channel said, “We did not attack the police but our members started shooting in self-defense as the police team along with the CoBRA unit of the CRPF was conducting an operation to take down our members.”
He added, “Bhaskar Kalita was a son of Assam but he should not have initiated operations against the ULFA-I. We mourn his death as well but our members did not kill him intentionally.”
Baruah stated that the officials of Assam Police are their brothers and would never ever think of harming their brothers and sons of this soil. In the past few years they have never attacked any Assamese officer.
Baruah lastly added, “The whole incident happened only because he along with CoBRA forces tried to kill our members who were taking shelter near a village inside the forest area.”
It has been reported that the members of the ULFA-I present on the location were very young and were new recruits.
It may be mentioned that the whole operation took place on Friday when the operation was launched by the Assam Police and CRPF near the Assam-Arunachal border in under Tinsukia to nab few suspected militants of the ULFA-I but after the team reached the location, a fierce gun battle took place between the militants and the police.
