earlier this year by the independent think-tank Centre for Monitoring Indian
Economy (CMIE), Meghalaya ranked third lowest in the country; however, the
on-ground reality is far off from data and numbers. Under the NPP-led MDA
government, the economy of Meghalaya is sinking expeditiously and along with it
is the rate of unemployment.

the Opposition in the state, hit out strongly at the Conrad Sangma-led MDA
government on the current vacancies left out in the administration. Questioning
the government's accountability, the party tweeted, “3,367 government posts lie
VACANT in Meghalaya, while the youth have to migrate in search of jobs. Who
will take accountability for these failures? When will the sons of the soil get
their dues?”

filed by activist Disparsing Rani. Mr Rani mentioned that various departments
have yet to notify the District Selection Committees (DSCs) or the Meghalaya
Public Service Commission (MPSC) about the need to advertise and conduct
interviews for more than 3,000 vacant positions in government jobs.

Maxbirth Momin in Tura, West Garo Hills, revealed that Tura Civil Hospital has
at least 157 nursing vacancies and 18 vacancies for various staff positions. In
Tura, which is the home of Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, basic healthcare
infrastructure is in disorder. The report revealed that despite the proposed
staff requirement of 271, the 200-bed hospital is operating with only 100
employees.
