Tezpur : The war of words between BJP candidate in Tezpur parliamentary seat and minister Pallab Lochan Das and Congress nominee and former additional chief secretary MGVK Bhanu refuses to die.
Bhanu on March 29th, 2019 said that he is “extremely hurt” by the remarks by the opposition leaders on his name, daughter’s wedding and being an “outsider”. An Assam-Meghalaya cadre IAS officer of the 1985 batch, Bhanu was born in West Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh in 1958. He retired as an additional chief secretary of the government of Assam in 2018.
“I am hurt…extremely hurt over the comments made on my name and my family. I have never heard such comments during my service period. Why would I stay back in Assam after retirement” I love Assam and its culture. The remarks used against me are not part of the Assamese culture. I have never seen any Axomiya speak like this,” he said.
He added, “The political scenario has changed so much in Assam….there was a value system previously. The politics in Assam has hit rock bottom. Even five years back, the scene was different as there was a discipline in place. The trend of taking jibes has started from this year.”

Das, who holds the portfolios of labour ministry and tea tribes welfare in Assam, claimed that Bhanu does not represent the people of the state as he hailed from Andhra Pradesh.
The retired bureaucrat also said that Das, aiming to become a Lok Sabha representative, should work towards highlighitn the issues of Assam. “The way he is using the Assamese language to pull down someone…what he will do at the Lok Sabha. He says I have come from Andhra Pradesh and hence don’t understand the culture of Assam. Well, we have also seen his culture (taking jibes). Noentheless, he (Das) is a young man and I forgive him for his comments,” Bhanu said.
