The incident came to light after the AASU workers on May 13th, 2019 were about to enter the office here when they spotted black stains on the Swahid Bedi memorial.
“This incident is utter disrespect not just to the AASU unit here but to the 855 martyrs of the 1979 Assam Movement,” said an AASU worker.
Meanwhile, a group of AASU workers suspect it to be a handiwork of “illegal immigrants taking shelter in Assam.”
“This is a handiwork of Bangladeshis. As AASU is vehemently opposed illegal immigrants and have been active for implementation of the NRC,” added another member.

AASU also demanded the formation of a special task force to arrest all the 1.12 lakh illegal Bangladeshis hiding in the country who suddenly went missing after the NRC final draft was released.
