Chirang : A sensation has triggered in Basugaon town area in Chirang district of Assam after unidentified miscreants left the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) Swahid Bedi smeared with black coal tar.

Miscreants smudge Swahid Bedi memorial with black coal tar
The incident came to light after the AASU workers on May 13th, 2019 were about to enter the office here when they spotted black stains on the Swahid Bedi memorial.
“This incident is utter disrespect not just to the AASU unit here but to the 855 martyrs of the 1979 Assam Movement,” said an AASU worker.

Meanwhile, a group of AASU workers suspect it to be a handiwork of “illegal immigrants taking shelter in Assam.”
“This is a handiwork of Bangladeshis. As AASU is vehemently opposed illegal immigrants and have been active for implementation of the NRC,” added another member.

Miscreants tarnish AASU Swahid bedi memorial in Chirang district
A day before AASU opposed the Supreme Court’s order on the release of the illegal foreigners from various detention camps of Assam and have instead requested the State Government to take action to immediately expel the illegal foreigners from Assam. AASU also demanded the formation of a special task force to arrest all the 1.12 lakh illegal Bangladeshis hiding in the country who suddenly went missing after the NRC final draft was released.
