The Complete Draft National Register of Citizens (NRC) of Assam has been published and is available in the official website- www.nrcassam.nic.in
A total of 4,007,707 persons have been left out from the complete draft of the NRC. A total of3,29,91,389 members applied through 68,31,330 applications. A total of 2,89,83,677 numbers of persons have been found to be eligible for inclusion in the complete NRC draft.
The persons whose name didn’t appear in the complete draft can apply for claims & objections from August 7.
The NRC authorities will issue three separate forms of claims, objections and corrections from August 7 both at the NRC Seva Kendras (NSKs) and online. The forms will also be available for downloading from www.nrcassam.nic.in. The NRC authorities will receive the forms from August 30 to September 28.
Joint Secretary (Northeast), Ministry of Home Affairs, Satyendra Garg, while addressing the media her on Monday, reassured that this Draft will not make anyone liable to imprisonment. “No one will be sent to the detention centres on the draft. Provision has been made to file an objection/claim against any ineligible entry,” Garg said.
The first draft was published on December 31 (midnight) last year with names of 1.9 crore people.
The NRC contains names of Indian citizens of Assam. The NRC was prepared in 1951, after the Census of 1951. The NRC Updation of 2014-2016 across Assam includes the names of those persons (or their descendents) who appear in the NRC 1951, or in any of the Electoral rolls up to the midnight of March 24, 1971 or in any one of the other admissible documents issued up to the midnight of March 24, 1971 which would prove their presence in Assam on or before March 24, 1971.
The hard copies of the complete draft of the NRC, contains 22 lakh pages, have been dispatched to all the 2,500 NRC Seva Kendras spread all over Assam, A control room has also been set up at the office of the NRC State Coordinator for information and complaints.
